  Upton sign

OS Map 133: Grid Ref. TG 397-125

This fine sign stands in the center of the village pond, hopefully safe from being vandalised. The design is similar to the original sign the three main features being a farmer at work in the fields to grow the corn that would be ground in the mill, then transported to Yarmouth in the Wherry that sailed from the nearby staith. In the background is the church of St. Margaret. The story goes that St. Margaret was eaten by a dragon but emerged from the encounter unscathed. Inside the church you can see a metal dragon.
