The Creake's, North and South lie midway between Fakenham and
Burnham Market. Just to the north of the village you will find the ruins of the
Creake Abbey. The Abbey was partly destroyed by fire in the 15th century, no
money was available so the Abbey was never restored. An epidemic some twenty
years later wiped out the community at Creake and the Abbey fell into ruin. The
arch on the sign represents the Abbey, through the arch is the present day
church of St. Mary the Virgin. Also represented on the sign is the village
blacksmith and the horse drawn plough, both are echo's of yesteryear.
