Beeston Regis Church

East window

The tower is the oldest part of the church dating back to the 11th century, the nave and chancel were built almost two centuries later. this church was at that time just one of two churches in the parish. The other St. Mary's was later taken to be St. Augustine Priory which fell into ruin under Henry the VIII. The Priory ruins are now a tourist attraction. The pride of the church is it's Rood Screen seen below, each of the twelve panels is painted with a picture of an Apostle. to the left of the screen is the font and above this is the East Window. The top right is a gate to commemorate the coronation and below this is a picture of the gallery with the organ pipes. The church stands on open land between the town and the sea.
